Students Collapse as Police Deploy Teargas Inside School
Wednesday, July 12th, pupils at Kihumbuini Primary School in Kangemi fainted after being exposed to tear gas by anti-riot police officers dispersing demonstrators.
According to reports, the students, who were on recess and playing on the school grounds, were trapped in the crossfire between police and locals accused of looting local shops.
In response to the teachers’ panicked calls, emergency personnel dispatched an ambulance to the school to evaluate the students and administer first aid.
“The students who were subjected to tear gas were not even participating in the ongoing anti-government demonstrations,” lamented an eyewitness.
A Kangemi resident who spoke with GossipA2Z also claimed that some of the students developed complications, compelling the medical staff to transport some of them to nearby hospitals.
After carefully evaluating their conditions, doctors ordered some students to be hospitalized for close observation, while others were treated and released promptly.
According to the source, a contingent of police officers was dispatched to Kangemi after unruly youth allegedly broke into butcheries and stole flesh.
“Other stalls and businesses were also raided by suspects who took advantage of the ongoing anti-government protests. Kangemi is hazardous. After being overcome by the tear gas, some of us retreated to our residences,” the resident disclosed.
Raila Odinga, leader of Azimio la Umoja, canceled the Kamukunji Grounds rally on Wednesday, July 12, alleging that the police had made it difficult for his supporters to gather peacefully.

Raila stated, however, that he would not relent until President William Ruto fulfilled their demands, which included amending contentious sections of the Finance Act 2023.
It will be trial by fire on multiple occasions, but we have been through it before. So, we continue. As Kenyans, it is our responsibility to liberate ourselves as we always have. It was never simple. It will not be simple, but it must be accomplished.
“With unity and resolve, we will compel Ruto to offer Kenyans a favorable bargain. Raila implored his supporters, “We will shortly communicate the Third Wave and our next course of action.”
On Tuesday, July 11, Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome warned that any unapproved protest would be violently suppressed.
In a statement, Koome accused Raila Odinga, the leader of Azimio la Umoja, of planning unlawful, violent demonstrations.
“Therefore, and in the interest of national security, the National Police Service wishes to inform the public that in the absence of notifications by planners of any demonstrations, which is a legal requirement for police to provide adequate security to demonstrators and the public, police have no choice but to disperse all illegal demonstrations.
“In this regard, such demonstrations/gatherings/protests will not be permitted, as no such notification has been submitted to any police station. Koome ordered that all legal means be used to disperse such demonstrations.
Additionally, pro-government politicians demanded the arrest of Raila and his allies.
