“STAY IN YOUR LANE, BISHOP!” – WETANGULA UNLEASHES ON ARCHBISHOP MUHERIA OVER GOV’T CRITICISM
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has addressed comments made by Nyeri Archbishop Anthony Muheria, who criticized the government’s communication methods by comparing them to an advertising agency.
On Friday, January 21, Wetangula defended the government’s strategy, urging Muheria and other religious leaders to focus on their spiritual duties instead of interfering in political matters. He stated that religious leaders should concentrate on guiding people’s souls, adding that engaging in political criticism could provoke responses that may not be suitable.

Wetangula stressed that the government has a responsibility to inform the public about its activities, as transparency and citizen participation are key constitutional requirements. He explained that the law mandates the government to keep the public updated on its programs and initiatives. According to him, ensuring that citizens are aware of government projects is not about advertisement but about accountability.
He further encouraged government officials to continue sharing information about their development programs, saying that it is their duty to let the public know what is being done.

“If you claim that the government is not an advertising agency, it shows that you have not read the 2010 Constitution of Kenya. The constitution is centered around the people, meaning they must be informed and involved in government affairs. It is our duty to communicate everything we do so that all Kenyans remain aware,” Wetangula explained.
Earlier, Archbishop Muheria had urged the government to shift its focus from promoting projects to actual implementation. He pointed out that governance should be more about delivering results rather than making public announcements.
Muheria argued that the government should stop focusing on marketing its plans and instead invest in experts who can effectively execute them. He expressed concern that too much attention was being given to publicity, often accompanied by unnecessary political arguments and negative remarks.
“The government should not be preoccupied with advertising its actions. Instead of repeatedly stating what has been done or what will be done, it should concentrate on delivering results. I wish we could move away from excessive publicity, unnecessary debates, and offensive language and focus on real progress,” he remarked.
