State Issues Ultimatum Over Gachagua’s Kamukunji Rally
Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua will only be allowed to hold his rally at Kamukunji grounds on Thursday if he or his party notifies the police in advance for proper security arrangements.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen stressed that the government will not permit illegal gatherings that disrupt peace or interfere with business in Nairobi during Gachagua’s highly anticipated return.
“If they have notified the police, we have no problem with any politician or party holding a meeting,” Murkomen said in Nyandarua. “But the gathering must remain peaceful and should not lead to looting, destruction of property, or violence.”
Murkomen added that anyone caught burning police stations, government vehicles, offices, or private businesses will face terrorism-related charges. He defended the government’s stance, saying arson and looting during protests amount to acts of terror.

His remarks come after Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja also dismissed Gachagua’s return from the U.S. as “ordinary,” assuring Kenyans that the National Police Service has full control of security operations and expects normalcy at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Thursday.
Murkomen earlier cautioned Gachagua’s supporters against causing chaos, revealing that intelligence reports had flagged possible unrest during his arrival. He warned that the state is ready to act if DCP’s call for over one million supporters at JKIA turns violent.
“The last time he was here, protests disrupted public order. This time, the National Police Service is fully prepared to safeguard Kenyans and protect property,” Murkomen said in Murang’a County during the 30th Jukwaa la Usalama forum on Tuesday.
