State House Hits Back: Ruto’s Projects Under Fire as Activist Morara Kebaso Exposes ‘White Elephants’
After enduring days of intense scrutiny regarding stalled projects initiated by President William Ruto, State House spokesperson Hussein Mohammed has officially responded to activist and lawyer Morara Kebaso.
Morara gained widespread attention online after launching a national tour to evaluate the progress of projects spearheaded by President Ruto.
Rising as a prominent figure in the accountability movement, Morara has independently expanded his inspection efforts across various counties to verify the status of numerous projects the President recently launched, including those dating back to his tenure as Deputy President.
To his dismay, Morara uncovered that many of the development projects ‘launched’ by Ruto are non-existent white elephants that still consumed hundreds of millions of Kenyan shillings, mostly paid to obscure contractors.
One such example is the Metembe-Marani road in Kisii County, originally launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2016.
Eight years later, President Ruto relaunched the same road on August 13, 2024, accompanied by a commemorative plaque proudly bearing his name.
Calling out the political deception, Morara posted, “Abagusii leaders were busy flattering and praising Ruto like a Lord. This is Metembe – Marani – Kegogi – Nyaore Road.”
“Launched in 2016 by Uhuru, relaunched recently when Ruto came to Kisii. These leaders should stop toying with our minds. What development did the president bring to Kisii? Tell us!”

Morara’s findings, published on August 18, quickly went viral, prompting thousands to support him while sharply criticizing the political charade.
Over 24 hours later, State House finally responded, with Mohammed addressing the lawyer through his official X account, refuting Morara’s claims and sharing his version of the story.
Accompanied by a series of dated photos to substantiate his claims, Mohammed corrected Morara, urging him to ‘stop misleading Kenyans’ and not to obsess over plaques.
He stated, “Ndugu, STOP misleading Kenyans! The road traverses Kitutu Chache North and South constituencies in Kisii County, spanning 64.6 km.”
“The project was initially awarded on May 11, 2016, with works commencing on August 5, 2016, following President Uhuru Kenyatta’s launch.
However, the contract was mutually terminated on May 16, 2023, due to the contractor’s non-performance. At the termination, 27km of the road was completed, though 77 months had elapsed out of the 30-month contract period.”
Mohammed clarified that President Ruto only stepped in to relaunch the newly awarded contract for the road and outlined the timeline for its completion.
“The project was re-tendered and awarded on March 14, 2024, with works commencing on June 22, 2024. President @WilliamsRuto officially relaunched the newly awarded road contract,” he said.
“The contract period is set for 42 months, with an additional maintenance period of 36 months.”

Advising Morara against being overly focused on plaques, Mohammed cautioned, “Don’t fixate on plaques. You should’ve visited the Kegogi-Sombogo-Marani-Ititi section where construction is actively ongoing…”
This marks the first instance in which State House has directly addressed Morara’s exposés as the lawyer and furniture trader continues to trend online, amassing a significant following for his unfiltered criticism of government inefficiency.
Among the projects Morara has visited and raised concerns about include the Kabonyo Fisheries and Aquaculture project, the Kipkarren Water Treatment and Piping Project near Eldoret Airport, the Mago Malulu road near Musalia Mudavadi’s residence, and the Malava Water Supply project.
