Social Media Influencer Aoko Otieno Arrested and Detained
On Friday, social media enthusiast Scorphine Maverick Aoko Otieno was arrested and taken into custody due to several of her online posts.
Police apprehended Aoko at her residence and transported her to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations for questioning.
Her lawyer revealed that the arrest came after numerous complaints about her posts were filed with the police, though details were not provided.
Initially, Lawyer Cliff Ombeta alleged that Aoko was not permitted to speak with her lawyer. However, he later confirmed that a lawyer was allowed to meet with her.
“..they have finally allowed my colleague to see her. I have also spoken to her. Thanks, Ivy Atekofor for attending Aoko Otieno; at least we now know she is okay,” he stated.
Ombeta did not specify the reasons for her arrest. However, police indicated she was being held before her court appearance for unspecified reasons.
Some posts from her X account have been removed, though it’s unclear who removed them.

According to her handler, Aoko was taken into custody and denied cash bail.
“This is Aoko’s aide. She was arrested this morning & has been detained. They have also denied her legal counsel,” a post from her X account read.
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino reported that Aoko was being held at Muthaiga police cells and would be arraigned soon.
“I visited Aoko Otieno today (Friday) at @DCI_Kenya headquarters. The charges against her are vexatious, frivolous, fickle, and unfounded,” he posted.
“She’s being held at Muthaiga Police Station.”
The news quickly spread online, with some users rallying under the #FreeAoko hashtag to advocate for her release.
Police confirmed that she would face charges in court, and they stated that there was a legitimate complaint against her.
