Silent Clues: Gachagua’s Political Fate Uncertain as MP Mbui Hints at Ruto’s Running Mate Shuffle
Deputy minority leader and Kathiani Member of Parliament Robert Mbui believes that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s recent silence is due to a possible exclusion in the upcoming election cycle.
According to Mbui, Gachagua’s withdrawal from the political scene is a result of a series of events that are diminishing his political clout in the country.
Mbui referred to an instance when President William Ruto suggested he might choose a female running mate, reinforcing his dedication to upholding the two-thirds gender rule in his administration.
The legislator mentioned that Ruto’s remarks might have unsettled DP Gachagua, leading him to doubt his chances of retaining his position as the second-in-command.
“After making those statements and receiving enthusiastic cheers from women, Ruto quickly added ‘Now after we discuss this with the DP’ to acknowledge his male deputy, but he had already hinted at considering an alternative running mate,” he said.
“This is one of the signs that the DP has noticed, indicating he might not be the running mate in the future.”

Mbui also pointed out that Gachagua’s popularity in the Mt Kenya region is waning, as there are seemingly more popular and younger leaders who have gained public favor.
“There are several young parliament members gaining traction and popularity across central Kenya, even surpassing the DP in some areas,” he added.
This discussion arises amid rumors of a rift between DP Gachagua and President Ruto, prompting Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga to defend Gachagua, stating that the Mt. Kenya people will not tolerate any mistreatment of him.
Kahiga emphasized that Gachagua was elected to his position, just like any other leader, and deserves respect.
“Disrespecting Gachagua is disrespecting the mountain, and vice versa. We warn those trying to sow discord between the president and his deputy,” Kahiga asserted.
Gachagua made his first public appearance in over a week by attending a church service in Endarasha, Nyeri County, on Sunday.
