Siaya and Migori Among 10 Counties Omitted from Key Road Projects
The Nyanza Counties of Migori, Siaya, and Nyamira are among the ten counties in Kenya that have been left out of the planned government projects to be implemented by the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA).
KURA’s website reveals that a total of 791 kilometers of paved roads will be constructed across various regions of the country.
This project will cost Ksh38 billion, with Nairobi receiving the majority for paving and maintaining 160 kilometers of roads.
Elgeyo Marakwet County in Rift Valley, along with other counties such as Trans Nzoia, Turkana, Nandi, and Samburu, have also been excluded from the Ksh38 billion allocation.
Nyandarua County from the Mt. Kenya region and Taita Taveta from the Coast region also did not receive any budget allocation from KURA.
Machakos County will be the second-largest recipient of KURA’s funding, with plans for 83 kilometers of road projects at a cost of Ksh7 billion.

Other counties that will benefit significantly from road projects include Kiambu (52.2 km), Nakuru (44 km), and Wajir (42.7 km).
Meanwhile, Tharaka Nithi, Vihiga, and Busia counties have been allocated no budget despite the identification of various road projects in those areas.
In Tharaka Nithi, 6.5 kilometers of road projects have been identified, with 6 kilometers in Vihiga and 5 kilometers in Busia also marked for construction.
However, the government agency did not specify how these projects would be completed without any allocated budget.
KURA’s responsibilities include managing, developing, rehabilitating, and maintaining National Trunk Roads in urban areas.
Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) is tasked with developing, constructing, and maintaining the rural road network.
The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) is responsible for the development, rehabilitation, management, and maintenance of all National Trunk Roads classified as Class S, A, and B roads.
