Shocking Twist: Maigo Murder Suspect Pleads Not Guilty After Guilty Plea
The primary suspect in the assassination of Eric Maigo, the finance director of Nairobi Hospital, pled not guilty to murder on Friday.
During her appearance before the Milimani law courts in Nairobi for mention, the suspect changed her plea from guilty to not guilty, an unexpected reversal.
The suspect’s change of heart occurred after an initial court directive to her attorney, which instructed the attorney to adequately apprise their client of the intricacies and seriousness of her case.
“I am giving you more time so that you can consult your lawyer and get an understanding of what you have told the court,” the judge directed.
The suspect appeared before Justice Kaanyi Kimondo on October 26 and pleaded guilty to murder. This occurred weeks after the prosecution informed the court that the defendant was an adult of sound mind and competent to stand trial.
Before her judicial appearance, the suspect was detained at the Lang’ata Women’s Prison.

Additionally, the court denied the suspect’s parole application because detectives had submitted an affidavit contesting her age.
Maigo’s body was discovered at his residence in Woodley Estate, Nairobi, on September 15. In response, the police initiated a manhunt for the perpetrator, who was captured on surveillance footage leaping over the fence.
The suspect was apprehended in Kibera by detectives affiliated with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) following weeks of searching.
On September 29, despite his father, Zebedeo Onchari, refuting allegations that his son intended to injure anyone, Maigo was laid to rest.
“He is our son and we know him. I cannot imagine what wrong he could do to anyone for them to murder or eliminate him. Because we know that he was a kind person, we believe that is what killed him,” he stated at the funeral.
