SHOCKING! Kisii Villagers Drinking ‘Poo Water’ – Gov’t Confirms Foul Findings
Public Health Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni has confirmed that the recent outbreak of a strange illness in South Mugirango Constituency, Kisii County, was caused by contaminated water.
Speaking in Kisii County on Tuesday, March 4, the PS explained that water samples taken from different sources in the affected villages showed the presence of faecal matter. This means that human waste had polluted the water, making it unsafe for consumption.
As a result, she urged residents to stop drinking the water immediately and take extra precautions to improve hygiene in their homes and communities. She emphasized that continued use of the contaminated water could lead to more cases of the illness, which has already affected hundreds of people in the area.
“It is important for residents to be aware that we have identified the source of the problem. The water they have been using contains human waste, which has made it unsafe. The same contamination has been found in samples collected from homes, confirming that the water they rely on is not fit for drinking,” she stated.

To address the situation, she held a meeting with health and security officials in Kisii County. These officials will now be responsible for making sure that hygiene and health standards are enforced to prevent further spread of the disease.
“As part of our efforts to manage this health crisis, I visited Kisii County Deputy Governor Elijah Obebo and County Commissioner Mr Joseph Kibet. This meeting was aimed at strengthening healthcare policies in response to the recent outbreak.
“Our discussions focused on urgent measures that must be taken immediately to contain the disease. These include rolling out emergency response plans, improving public health facilities, and reinforcing disease monitoring systems to ensure quick detection and action in case of further outbreaks,” she explained.
The outbreak has so far resulted in more than 200 people falling sick, with many seeking medical attention. Among the symptoms reported by affected residents are severe headaches, high fever, and diarrhea.
Health authorities are now working to contain the disease and prevent further infections. Residents have been advised to seek medical help if they experience any symptoms and to follow hygiene guidelines strictly to avoid consuming contaminated water.
