As of this afternoon, the death toll for the Kilifi cult has risen to 95 after the bodies of five children were exhumed near the residence of controversial preacher Paul Mackenzie.

This occurred as the sixth day of the exhumation of bodies began today, as reports of how the alleged preacher convinced his followers to starve to death continue to shock the nation and the world.

NTV reported that five more children had been discovered dead in Shakahola, where the exhumation has been ongoing since Friday.

A cult survivor from Kilifi describes the horror in Shakahola.

A survivor related how she was forced to be Mackenzie’s servant upon her arrival in Shakahola, where she believed she was going to purchase land.

Philomena Kiilu said she received information that she could purchase a good piece of land in Shakahola for as little as KSh 3,000, and she did not hesitate to purchase it.

Kiilu stated that she traveled to Shakahola with her two children before her husband joined them.

She registered at the entrance and was assigned a temporary structure within the compound upon her arrival. “My responsibilities included cleaning and cooking for the “king,” and at night I would return to my hut. This is how I became close with the Mackenzie family,” she told detectives in her statement.

Mackenzie’s strict rules A few days later.

Three men would storm her hut and hand her an action plan with strict instructions for her and her children to adhere to.

According to the rules, children were to be starved until they died. So that they could “meet God and escape the suffering of the world.” Men were to come next, then women.

She made multiple attempts to escape until January of this year when she finally succeeded.
