SHA, Gachagua, and Engonga Lead Google Searches for 2024(List)
Google revealed its “Year in Search 2024” lists for Kenya on Tuesday, offering insights into the topics that captured Kenyans’ attention throughout the year.
This annual report analyzes the most searched trends, shedding light on what people worldwide are eager to explore, learn, and engage with.
SHA topped the trending news list for Kenya this year, followed by the Finance Bill 2024 and the US Elections 2024, which ranked third.
In the personalities category, former Deputy President Gachagua led as the top trending local figure, dominating national discussions following his impeachment.
Behind Gachagua were Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano and Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya.

The most searched global personalities in 2024 featured a blend of political and entertainment figures, including Jamaican reggae and dancehall icon Vybz Kartel, US President-Elect Donald Trump, and American televangelist Benny Hinn, who held a healing crusade in Nairobi at Nyayo Stadium in February.
US Vice President Kamala Harris and Baltasar Engonga, former director of Equatorial Guinea’s National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF), secured fourth and fifth places. Engonga gained viral attention after a series of sextapes involving various partners, including wives of prominent officials, surfaced on social media.
Kenyans’ continued passion for football was evident in the sports category, which was dominated by AFCON, held in Ivory Coast from January to February, followed by Euro 2024 in Germany from June to July, and the 2024 Olympics schedule.
The most searched tragic loss for Kenyans was Brian Chira, a content creator who tragically died in a hit-and-run accident in March.
Other notable losses searched by Kenyans included those of actor Charles Ouda, director Rita Tinina, and media personality Fred Omondi, who passed away from severe pneumonia.
