Several Feared Dead After 6 Trucks Collide Along Nakuru-Eldoret Highway
At least five people are feared dead after an accident occurred along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway on Saturday, April 6.
According to reports, the accident involved about six trucks that collided resulting in fatalities as multiple passengers sustained injuries.
The collision also caused traffic disruption with some motorists being forced to spend hours on the busy highway. Motorists plying the route lamented over the narrow road which was cited as a cause of frequent accidents.
By the time of publishing this article, the cause of the accident was yet to be established.
Unverified witness accounts, however, indicated that the accident might have been caused by the muddy terrain ostensibly leading to the vehicles losing control.
Also, the weather was foggy and misty which may have affected the drivers’ vision.
In the photos circulating online, one of the trucks was depicted having veered off the road and overturned blocking sections of the road.

Following the accident, residents and motorists rushed to the scene to rescue the victims.
Following the accident, Kenyans have called upon the Ministry of Transport and Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to intervene and reduce the cases of traffic accidents which have been on the rise.
Earlier on CS Murkomen announced plans to introduce CCTV and stop arms in school buses which is a similar practice in the US. Also, CS Murkomen revealed the government was mulling introducing speed cameras which will administer instant fines.
“Once the camera captures you breaking the law, we shall immediately alert the local police, who will come and give you your heavy fine,” he stated.
Data from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) reveal that 1,213 Kenyans died in road carnages from January 1, 2024, to April 3, 2024.
