Senior Nairobi Police Officer Shoots Neighbour Before Killing Self
A Kayole-based senior police officer assigned to the Special Operations Bureau (SOB) shot himself in the chin minutes after shooting a neighbor who had intervened to assist.
The officer, identified as Ezra Ouma, was pronounced deceased at Komarock Modern Hospital after being rushed there.
According to a police report shared with PoliticalPulseChat, Ouma threatened to shoot himself with a colleague who is a police superintendent at the station.
The commander rushed to the site, where he was informed by nearby residents that the officer had been transported to the hospital.
A 35-year-old man named Philip Muhavi Ayieka was shot in the left foot by the deceased when he attempted to assist the distressed officer.

It was not immediately obvious why the officer took his own life, even as his colleagues commenced investigations.

The authorities recovered a pistol with twelve rounds of ammunition and one cartridge.
Cases of police officers committing suicide are on the rise, with experts attributing it to stress and deplorable working conditions.
Experts have also noted the country’s deteriorating mental health, which has led to an increase in suicides and homicides.
The Kayole case occurred less than a week after a Kerugoya police officer committed suicide in his apartment, shortly after leaving a note for his partner.
Counselors, physicians, and psychologists strongly advise seeking assistance whenever experiencing mental health issues. Call the Kenya Red Cross’s toll-free helpline at 1199 for assistance.
