Senator Osotsi Alleges State House Involvement in Siaya Deputy Governor’s Impeachment Survival

Vihiga Senator Goeffrey Osotsi now claims that the State House had a hand in Monday’s Senate events, which saw Siaya Deputy Governor William Oduol survive impeachment.

The majority of Senators opposed the effort to remove Oduol from office. The impeachment motion originated from a dispute he had with his boss, Governor James Orengo, which angered the majority of MCAs and leaders in Siaya.

Osotsi, speaking to Citizen TV on Tuesday’s Day Break program, referred to Monday’s events as “another confirmation that Parliamentary democracy is on trial” and stated that the Senate special committee investigating allegations against Oduol “did a fantastic job, examined evidence provided by all parties, and found Oduol guilty.”

“Seven members voted in favor of the report, while four members decided not to vote for it after receiving phone calls… The Kenya Kwanza team was summoned to a meeting, phone calls were made, and they were told, “You must ensure that this report is approved,” the senator explained.

When asked by whom, the senator responded to the host, Sam Gituku, “By State House,” and when pressed further, he added, “They are our friends; we communicate with them. One of the members confided in me that he was called to the State House this morning to explain his vote.

The director general was under investigation for alleged violations of the constitution, misuse of public resources, and other laws.

27 senators voted against the two grounds that the committee had determined to be proven and supported. Sixteen senators, predominantly from the Azimio faction, voted to remove Oduol from office.

According to Osotsi, eleven senators supported the committee report despite the opposition of five.

Senator Osotsi was on the panel with National Assembly Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss Shollei, who dismissed the senator’s allegations as reckless.

She defended President William Ruto, stating that his busy schedule would not permit him to attempt to influence the impeachment of a deputy governor.

“It is quite irresponsible to assert there were calls from the White House. To make such remarks on national television. Such accusations against the head of state are extremely serious.

“Everyone knows the president’s schedule is jam-packed, so to believe he has time to make a phone call regarding the impeachment of a deputy governor in Siaya is a bit of a stretch,” Shollei said.

In the meantime, Oduol has stated that he plans to seek the assistance of elders and churches to reconcile with Governor Orengo.
