Senate Rejects Impeachment Motion Against Siaya Deputy Governor William Oduol
On Monday, June 26, the Senate rejected an impeachment motion against Siaya County Deputy Governor William Oduol after rejecting a committee report that recommended his removal from office.
During a vote conducted during a special session to review the report of a special Ad Hoc Committee, the majority of Senators concluded that the alleged offenses did not warrant the deputy governor’s impeachment.
“By Article 181 of the Constitution, the result of this vote is as follows. “It is essential to note that the Senate failed to impeach Siaya Deputy Governor William Oduol, and he will remain in office,” ruled Senate Speaker Amason Kingi.
The committee found the DG guilty of gross violations of the Constitution and other laws, in addition to providing false information to the public.
However, 27 senators voted against the charges against Oduol, while only 16 supported them. There were 36 lawmakers present in the chambers, while 3 participated virtually.
In addition, the committee dismissed two counts of misappropriation of funds and abuse of office by the Siaya County deputy governor.

In the Senate plenary, Azimio la Umoja Coalition legislators appeared to side with Siaya County MCAs, while Kenya Kwanza legislators dismissed the allegations in a terse manner.
