Scandal Uncovered: UK Newspaper Exposes British Soldiers’ Questionable Ritual in Kenya

The UK newspaper, The Daily Mail, has uncovered a coin-flipping tradition that newly deployed recruits experienced in Kenya.

According to an article in the publication’s affiliated outlet, the Mail on Sunday, it was asserted that the fresh recruits were required to engage in sexual activities with prostitutes as a demonstration of their courage.

The older members would flip a coin to decide whether the recruit could use a condom or not.

The news source stated that its information was derived from a study recently published in the British Medical Journal Military Health.

“When this unit deploys on exercise (to the British Army Training Unit Kenya), they have an initiation ceremony for all the new soldiers who haven’t deployed to Kenya before.

“The more senior soldiers would flip a coin – heads you could use a condom, tails you could not” the study quoted a soldier.

As a result, the research raised concerns about the safety of soldiers, including the risk of them being exposed to sexually transmitted diseases like HIV.

A former UK government official informed the media that British soldiers received training on sexual health before their deployment in Kenya.

“Sexual health is a part of annual training for all service personnel,” stated former Army intelligence officer Philip Ingram.

“To hear that soldiers are being forced into some form of sexual initiation ceremony… where HIV rates are very high shocks me to the core. (It) once again highlights a failure in leadership and that the culture in the Army is still fundamentally broken.”

The UK’s Labour Party has pledged to thoroughly investigate the 2012 murder case of Agnes Wanjiru, a Kenyan woman.

It is claimed that British soldiers, who were reportedly last seen with her on March 31, 2012, are suspected of being involved in her murder. The soldiers were allegedly stationed in Nanyuki when she died.
