Ruto’s Game-Changing Orders for Police & KDF Recruitment

President William Ruto has issued a directive to the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and the National Police Service (NPS) to ensure that officers from the National Youth Service (NYS) are given priority in their forthcoming recruitment efforts.

During his inaugural State of the Nation address in Parliament, the chief of state urged the two organizations to ensure that New York State officers comprise 80% of recruits.

He further stated that the New York State Department of Youth Services had increased its recruitment of young individuals from 20,000 to 40,000 to generate additional employment opportunities and, consequently, necessitate organizational changes at other security agencies.

”To consolidate this proposition, we have directed that 80 percent of future recruits to all our national security services will be from among the well-trained, talented, and committed young men and women who have undergone training at NYS.”

He further expressed his desire to guarantee that the recruitment process for the service embodies a nationwide perspective.

”Consequently, we are doubling enrolment to 40,000 in the Service from next year, and have made it mandatory that every village, center, town, and city in Kenya is properly represented in the recruitment,” the President further stated.

The government takes into account various qualifications, including but not limited to height, educational credentials, and age, during the ongoing recruitment process.

In addition, Ruto released a progress report detailing the Kenya Kwanza regime’s plans and development initiatives.

He reaffirmed the action taken by his administration to prevent the exploitation of security agencies for extrajudicial criminal activities.

”In discharging this commitment, we have been mindful not to use security imperatives to commit impunity, including misuse of resources and extrajudicial infringements on freedoms and fundamental human rights of citizens,” added Ruto in his address.

In the interim, President William Ruto endorsed three suggestions outlined in a progress report on police reforms, which was presented by a task force led by former Chief Justice David Maraga, on October 4.

William Ruto, in addition to approving three other recommendations, sanctioned the notion of cadet levels serving as entry sites into the National Police Service.

”At a time when a crime is constantly evolving, this provision will attract more professionals to police service,” President Ruto said.

In addition, he authorized the salary transfers of the National Police Service, the Prisons Service, and the National Youth Service to the security sector.

Prohibiting officers from remaining at a single station for more than three years constituted the third recommendation.
