Ruto’s Bold Move: Ksh 5M Reward for World Record-Breaking Athletes

President William Ruto awarded Faith Kipyegon on Tuesday, June 13 for breaking two world records in the Paris Diamond League.

Ruto announced during a speech at State House in Nairobi that Kipyegon would receive a Ksh6 million house.

She would also receive Ksh5 million in cash for breaking the records for the 1,500 meters and 5,000 meters.

“The government of Kenya will award Ksh5 million for every world record broken by a Kenyan,” stated Ruto.

“She has won both the 1,500-meter and 5,000-meter races and broken two world records. Ruto added, “The government of Kenya will award her Ksh5 million for one record, and we will give her a house worth Ksh6 million.”

The Affordable Housing Programme constructed Kipyegon’s new 3-bedroom home in Parklands, Nairobi.

At the same time, Ruto awarded the 2023 African 100-meter champion, Ferdinand Omanyala, Ksh2 million for setting the pace for other sprinters.

The head of state argued that awards were intended to recognize athletes advancing in various economic sectors.

Nevertheless, Vice President Rigathi Gachagua advised athletes to invest prudently.

He noted that the government was concerned about cases of athletes who had won millions falling into poverty.

Gachagua volunteered to instruct athletes on investment strategies.
“Faith, if you have trouble determining how to invest your future earnings, I’m available to assist you. I am a highly prudent businessperson. I can guide you to ensure your success, as Gachagua stated.

In addition to teaching them financial literacy, Ruto and his deputy pledged to allocate more funds to the sports sector, which they insisted was the key to inspiring other talented Kenyans.

In addition, Ruto ordered the immigration department to issue diplomatic passports to athletes who excel at facilitating travel.

After receiving the award, the elated athlete declared that she would grant her father’s request by purchasing him a vehicle.
