Ruto’s Bipartisan Team – Azimio: How Control Slipped Away
Wednesday, May 24th, Azimio la Umoja asserted that President William Ruto lacks control over Kenya Kwanza’s side of the bipartisan talks.
Raila stated at a press conference at the SMK Centre in Nairobi. That someone with ulterior motives was attempting to scuttle the talks and force Azimio back onto the streets.
The coalition observed that the Kenya Kwanza bipartisan team was receiving instructions from multiple sources. Preventing them from engaging in meaningful dialogue.
“The Kenya Kwanza squad is essentially several teams merged into one; its members answer to different coaches and are not moving in the same direction.
“They are receiving contradictory instructions, and distinct regions are pulling in opposing directions. “Secondly, Kenya Kwanza does not have a clear position on whether or not the talks should continue,” Raila stated.
Azimio explained that Kenya Kwanza acted intentionally. Like confused negotiators to kill time and avoid reaching a logical conclusion regarding the current situation.
“Mr. William Ruto has purposefully given them no clear direction on how to proceed. Kenya Kwanza views the negotiations as a means of managing the political situation, reducing political tensions, and continuing business as usual.
“The destabilization of the Jubilee Party is a do-or-die agenda, sponsored by the highest level of Kenya Kwanza leadership, whose goal is to ensure Kenya Kwanza obtains a supermajority in parliament and amends the constitution, removes presidential term limits, abolishes devolution, and removes the independence of constitutional commissions and places them within the Presidency,” Odinga said in part of his statement.

Raila cautioned the Kenya Kwanza side. However, that they were well aware of the game being played by the government’s negotiators. And would soon announce new resolutions.
The coalition noted that the Kenya Kwanza bipartisan team opposed every proposal that the Azimio la Umoja presented.
“Unfortunately, our team encountered resistance, hostility, and outright rejection on all preliminary actions desired. Kenya Kwanza was unable to commit to stopping the invasion of Jubilee, preserving the servers, reducing the cost of unga, and suspending the process of hiring new IEBC commissioners.
The statement read in part, “In other words, Kenya Kwanza wants to continue with measures that increase the cost of living, they want to interfere with IEBC servers, proceed with the selection of new IEBC commissioners, and continue invading Azimio parties while we sit in board rooms discussing the same issues.”
As a result of the impasse, Azimio delegations determined that if interim measures could not be guaranteed. There was no need to discuss substantive issues.
Raila explained that the framework agreement that established the talks stipulates a seven-day suspension in the event of a stalemate. And his delegation subsequently invoked this provision.
Raila forewarned President William Ruto, “If at the end of seven days, we are unable to resume negotiations, the talks will be considered dead.”
