    Ruto Shakes Up Cabinet Again!

President William Ruto has reshuffled his Cabinet, assigning additional responsibilities to three Cabinet Secretaries to ensure smooth governance. The announcement was made on Saturday, December 28.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who also serves as Foreign Affairs CS, will now oversee the Information, Communication, and Digital Economy docket. Aden Duale, previously tasked with the Environment Ministry, has been assigned the Agriculture portfolio. Meanwhile, Salim Mvurya recently moved to the Sports Ministry, will also take charge of the Trade docket.

Chief of Staff Felix Koskei clarified in a press statement that these temporary changes were necessary following earlier Cabinet adjustments made by the President before Christmas.

โ€œFollowing the Cabinet changes on December 19, 2024, and as the newly nominated CSs await parliamentary approval, His Excellency has designated acting CSs to manage the vacant dockets,โ€ the statement read.

This realignment comes after Ruto nominated Mutahi Kagwe (Agriculture), Lee Kinyanjui (Trade), and William Kabogo (Information) to the Cabinet. The nominees are set to face vetting by Parliament’s Appointments Committee on January 14, 2025.

The vetting schedule begins with Kagwe at noon, Kabogo at 3 PM, and concludes with Kinyanjui at 5 PM. All three nominees are allies of former President Uhuru Kenyatta, sparking speculation of deeper political collaboration between Ruto and his predecessor.

Dubbed the “Ichaweri Summit,” their recent meeting reportedly paved the way for a ‘super broad-based government’ to include leaders from across the political spectrum. This move follows the integration of Raila Odinga’s allies after the July-August Gen Z protests.

President Ruto defended the nominations as a step toward national unity, expressing his confidence in their ability to tackle pressing issues. Speaking at AIC Kipkorgot Church in Uasin Gishu, he emphasized the importance of unity in driving Kenyaโ€™s development agenda.
