Ruto Ready to Support Opposition Leader’s Office

President William Ruto stated on Sunday that he is willing to establish the position of opposition leader in parliament if the opposition requests it.

President Ruto stated that he is even willing to fund the office if establishing it will enable them to better control the government.

Ruto stated during a Thanksgiving service in Kanduyi constituency, Bungoma county, that the opposition must operate within the parameters of the constitution and that he will assist them in performing their duties.

“If they want us to establish the office of the opposition leader, I am willing to fund it with the Kenyan government.” He (Raila Odinga) will release statements throughout the day regarding the government’s deficiencies. “I have no issues,” he stated.

“If he claims that I have not fixed something, and I have not, will I not remedy it? I have no problem.”

The Head of State, however, maintained that he would not permit any leader to instigate disorder at the expense of Kenyans in the name of opposing the government.

He pledged to safeguard the lives and property of Kenyans, while condemning the anti-government demonstrations organized by the Azimio la Umoja coalition.

“What I cannot condone is chaos, the destruction of property, and the destruction of people’s enterprises in order to sabotage Kenya’s economy. That is inadmissible. It is unlawful, undemocratic, unconstitutional, and contrary to the rule of law.

This occurs in the midst of negotiations between the opposition and the government to resolve a protracted political dispute.

The ten-member joint committee, comprised of five representatives from each party, is deliberating a variety of contentious issues, including Azimio’s position on the high cost of living.

Other issues include a review of the General Election of 2022, the bipartisan reorganization of Kenya’s electoral commission (IEBC), respect for political parties in accordance with the constitution, and inclusiveness in government affairs.

Kenya Kwanza, on the other hand, desires the reconstitution of the IEBC, the implementation of the two-thirds gender rule, the establishment of the official office of the opposition leader, the establishment of the Constituency Development Fund, and the establishment of the office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary.
