Ruto Nominates Ezra Chiloba for Ambassadorial Job

Former Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) Director General Ezra Chiloba has been nominated for a new ambassadorial role

In a statement released by the State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohammed on Friday, March 8, 2024, Chiloba was fronted as the Consul General of the Republic of Kenya in Los Angeles, California in the United States.

“His Excellency the President has transmitted the nominations of High Commissioners and Ambassadors and Permanent Representatives to the National Assembly for consideration, and approval by Parliament,” the statement reads in part.

On October 18, 2023, a statement to the Communications Authority announced Chiloba’s resignation, after he sent a letter addressed to the Board Chairperson, Mary Mungai.

“On behalf of the Authority, I wish the outgoing Director-General success in his future endeavors and appreciate his invaluable contribution to the organization and the wider ICT sector,” the board chair stated.

Also appointed is Ruto’s ally from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party Fred Outa, as the Ambassador for Cairo, Egypt.

Outa, who is a former Kisumu County Deputy Governor, was formally nominated for a Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) position by President Ruto before the court declared the role unconstitutional.

“The President today caused nominations and appointments to the senior ranks of the public service for persons to serve the nation as Ambassadors, High Commissioners, and Permanent Representatives in Kenya’s Embassies/High Commissions/Missions abroad,” the statement reads.

Further, Ruto nominated Caroline Mueke for the Secretary-General of the East African Community, a position set to be determined by the Summit of the Heads of State in East Africa.

“The Government of Kenya has, under Article 67 of the Treaty on Establishment of the East African Community, nominated Ms Caroline Mwende Mueke for appointment by the Summit of the Heads of State as the Secretary-General of the East African Community,” the statement added.

President William Ruto speaking during the International Women’s Day celebrations in Embu earlier in the day, announced the appointment of ten women to serve as ambassadors, along with an additional six women appointed as deputy ambassadors, to represent Kenya internationally.

“The Constitution instructs that women receive equal rights in leadership roles, therefore, we are working on amending the Constitution to include women in Kenya’s leadership,” Ruto had noted.
