On Friday morning, President William Ruto conducted a discussion with US Senator Chris Coons at the State House in Nairobi.

The leader of the nation announced on Twitter that the gathering was scheduled with the purpose of strengthening the ties between Kenya and the United States.

“Kenya is keen on enhancing its relations with the United States to expand trade and investment opportunities for citizens of both nations.

This mutually beneficial partnership will extend to climate change mitigation efforts and environmental conservation,” said Ruto.

The President also pointed out that Senator Coons recognized Kenya “as one of the most vibrant democracies in the world.”

“At State House, Nairobi, held talks with US Senator Chris Coons who appreciated Kenya as one of the most vibrant democracies in the world. Also discussed global security issues, climate change, and the progressive path of devolution in Kenya,” said Ruto.

Dr. Alfred Mutua, Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs, and the United States Ambassador to Kenya, Meg Whitman, were also in attendance at the meeting.

Senator Coons had a meeting with Raila Odinga, the leader of Azimio, last week. Sources suggest that the main focus of the discussions was the ongoing conversation between Kenya Kwanza and Azimio.

In the meantime, the State House gathering occurs shortly after Ambassador Whitman sparked a significant political controversy by openly commending Kenya’s August 2022 General Election as the most trustworthy vote the nation has ever conducted.

Opposition leaders, with Raila Odinga at the helm, were displeased by her comments. They criticized her and cautioned against her involvement in Kenya’s matters.

During the inauguration of the Devolution Conference on Wednesday, Ambassador Whitman expressed the view that the 2022 elections validated Kenya’s status as the most democratic nation on the continent.

She said: “I arrived in Kenya days before the August 2022 General Election, and what I witnessed was nothing short of remarkable. Kenya held, what many analysts and commentators say, was the free-est, fairest, and most credible election in Kenyan history.”

Reacting to the situation, Mr. Odinga delivered a speech at the Devolution Conference in Eldoret, located in Uasin Gishu County. During his address on Thursday, he criticized Whitman for interfering in Kenya’s matters.

“I want to tell the rogue ambassador, leave Kenyans alone. If maandamano can lead to dialogue between Ichung’wah and Kalonzo, everything is good with maandamano,” Odinga stated.
