Ruto Meeting Erupts as ODM Rebel MPs Face Heckling
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM)-elected Members of Parliament who fell out with the party leader Raila Odinga were on Sunday heckled at a meeting led by President William Ruto
Ruto, who is currently addressing a rally in Awendo, Migori County, as part of his meet-the-people tour in the Nyanza counties perceived to be Raila’s stronghold, is currently on a tour of these counties.
Paul Rabuor (Rongo), Caroli Omondi (Suba South), Elisha Odhimabo (Gem), Mark Nyamita (Uriri), and Tom Ojienda (Kisumu) were present.
William Oduol, Deputy Governor of Siaya, was also present at the rally. A few months after taking office, Oduol and Governor James Orengo clashed over the county’s administration.
MCAs’ attempts to impeach him failed after the Senate voted against the petition.
The leaders’ speeches were interrupted by booing from the crowd, indicating that the electorate may be dissatisfied with their decision to reject Raila.
Locals in particular assaulted Nyamita as he attempted to ascend the podium where Ruto and other prominent leaders were present.

Even though he was the President’s close ally, angry locals were captured on video telling the seasoned politician that he was not welcome at the meeting.
Despite the politicians’ assertions that they will continue working with the president to bring development to the region, their popularity among the electorate has declined.
During the Nyanza meet-the-people tour, Ruto focused on forming a new rapport with Azimio leader Raila Odinga, which pushed the rebels to the periphery.
“I voted for Raila and he has never voted for me. I will now wait for his vote in the 2027 General Elections because if he’s not running, I will be running alongside Kalonzo Musyoka,” Ruto had remarked while in Homa Bay.
Raila Odinga stated on Wednesday, October 4, that he had instructed the administrators of Nyanza to collaborate with the President on development issues.
The former prime minister has not yet stated whether he will establish a political alliance with the president ahead oft of the next election cycle.
