Ruto lied to Kenyans, Miguna Miguna’s Eye-Opening Moment

Miguna Miguna, a passionate lawyer who was previously a strong advocate for William Ruto, has now become part of the increasing number of Kenyan individuals and organizations expressing strong disapproval regarding the president’s recent criticisms directed at the judiciary.

In his advice to the President on X and other social media platforms, Dr Miguna wants Dr Ruto to stop threatening the judiciary and Kenyan litigants.

“Why did you lie that you would end … Uhuru Kenyatta’s legacy of impunity? Why would you expect ordinary Kenyans to obey and uphold laws and courts you defy? You are fermenting chaos and you soon see the fruits of chaos!” he posted on X on January 3, 2024.

“I say No! Stop threatening the judiciary. Remember that without the judiciary, you wouldn’t be president. You can’t pretend to protect the independence of the judiciary through threats… We say No to autocracy!
Pointing out that corruption was rife in every sector in Kenya, including the State House where the president resides and works, the fiery lawyer stated that it needed to be dealt with by the law, and not through threats or extrajudicial means.

He suggested to Dr. Ruto that it would be wise to control himself and avoid paying attention to the flatterers associated with Kenya Kwanza

“Do not listen to sycophants who have been urging you to wield the sword. Those are autocratic enemies of the people. Restrain yourself. Don’t become a tyrant!” Dr Miguna said on X on January 3, 2024.

The lawyer who is also a politician mentioned that there are numerous legal methods to facilitate the overhaul of Kenyan society, which the Head of State should employ.

However, in what seemed like a suggestion from the divisive attorney to unite with fellow Kenyans in demonstrating against poor governance or violations of the Constitution by the president, Dr. Miguna declared his readiness to participate in the effort to ensure the government adheres to the law.

“We have a plethora of strategies and tactics of wrestling grand corruption in Kenya, but autocratic means are not among them,” said Dr Miguna.

“Avoid autocracy and those urging you to make the wrong turn
because we still have enough patriotic Kenyans prepared and ready to sacrifice their lives in the defence of the Constitution, democracy, and the rule of law.”

Dr. Miguna has previously expressed criticism of Dr. Ruto, despite having backed him during the previous elections.

Roughly a week prior, the passionate attorney strongly advised Kenyans against making justifications for the present administration. They highlighted that the current Kenyan Kwanza leadership had let down the people, leading to a sense of despair and hopelessness among them.

He argued that the president was to blame for achieving little in his first year in office because he appointed “incompetent and corrupt individuals” who, according to him, have contributed to the failures of the state.

He stated that he would back what he considers morally correct and compliant with the law or Constitution, regardless of his role or political affiliation.

Going by his recent updates on social media, the lawyer, popularly referred to as the ‘General’, appears to be turning into one of the government’s biggest critics.

Dr. Miguna, formerly a trusted associate of Opposition leader Raila Odinga, parted ways with him before the 2013 General Election. However, they later reconciled, and Miguna became part of Odinga’s campaign team in 2017.

Following the March 9 Handshake in 2018 between Mr. Odinga and the then-President Uhuru Kenyatta, their disagreements resurfaced, subsequently causing Mr. Odinga to be compelled into exile in Canada, where he also holds citizenship.

He later became a fierce critic of the ‘Handshake government’ and pro-Ruto, before and after the 2022 polls.

Dr. Miguna, previously denied re-entry by the Kenyatta administration, returned to the country to a cordial reception following Dr. Ruto’s assuming office.

The attorney was observed appearing alongside the president and State officials on various occasions while criticizing Mr. Odinga and other opposition politicians.

Some speculated that he might receive recognition in the form of a government role, potentially as a chief administrative secretary.

Although he expressed his willingness to take on a government role, he made it clear that he wouldn’t agree to any CAS position due to its unconstitutional status within the Cabinet.

Subsequently, he sought the position of Kenya’s director of public prosecutions, but Renson Ingonga was ultimately appointed to the role instead.

As forewarned, on July 3, 2023, the High Court ruled that Dr. Ruto’s appointment of 50 CASS was unconstitutional, as petitioned by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) and Katiba Institute. The government has filed an appeal against this decision.
