Ruto Issues Directive to IEBC Selection Panel
President William Ruto has asked the team responsible for selecting candidates for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairperson and Commissioners to speed up the process.
On Tuesday afternoon, while attending the funeral of Malava MP Malulu Injendi, Ruto urged the selection panel to move quickly so that Malava residents can elect a new representative.
Ruto stressed the need to reconstitute the electoral commission as soon as possible and assured Malava residents of his full support. He promised that his government would continue serving them smoothly despite the loss of their MP.
“I want to assure you that I will not leave you alone. We are in this together. To honor my late friend and your former MP Injendi, I will stand with you until the end,” Ruto told the people of Malava.
He added, “Since I have already selected the panel responsible for reorganizing the IEBC, I now urge them to speed up the process so that we can have a new IEBC in place. This will allow the people of Malava to choose their next MP.”
Ruto also emphasized that he is ready to work with whoever is elected as the new MP for Malava.

His request comes just a few weeks after he appointed a nine-member team to oversee the restructuring of the electoral body.
According to a gazette notice dated January 27, the President appointed Lindah Gakii, Oloo Adams, James Misati, Nicodemus Bore, Koki Muli, Andrew Kipkoech, Nelson Makanda, Caroline Kituku, and Fatuma Saman as members of the selection panel.
Since their appointment, the panel has announced the vacant positions and started reviewing applications for shortlisting.
While addressing Members of Parliament on February 18, the committee’s chairperson, Nelson Makanda, reassured Kenyans that the recruitment process would be fair and transparent.
“We want to assure the public that we are committed to conducting this process fairly and openly. We will keep everyone informed at every stage of the selection,” Makanda stated.
Malava MP Malulu Injendi passed away on February 17 after being hospitalized for several weeks at Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi. He was serving his third term as an MP when he died.
