Ruto Increases Capitation to Schools by Ksh12B Days After Releasing Ksh 31B
On Monday, President William Ruto revealed that the government has raised the funding allocated for bursaries shortly after distributing Ksh31 billion.
Addressing the audience in Uasin Gishu County, the president declared that the administration would allocate Ksh12 billion to schools across the nation.
As per Ruto, the increased funds will ensure students smoothly move into Junior Secondary Schools and enhance the quality of the education system.
“We want to make sure that our education system is appropriately grounded on a strong foundation upon which to build the process of Kenya,” he stated.
President Ruto announced requests from opposition leader Raila Odinga to release the funds before the reopening of schools.
Ruto faced pressure from fellow opposition members, who advised him to focus on the education sector first before initiating any other development initiatives.
“Our students are facing financial challenges, and bursaries play a crucial role in ensuring that they have access to quality education. We urge President William Ruto to intervene and expedite the release of NG-CDF funds so that we can allocate bursaries without further delay,” requested Trans Nzoia MP Kakai Bisau.

Raila alleged that Ruto had not raised the funding allocation for schools as much as previous leaders had. He urged parliament members to advocate for the distribution of funds and enhancement of the education system.
In the meantime, at the event, Ruto pledged to rejuvenate his former elementary school, Kamagut in Uasin Gishu. The initiative is projected to require Ksh190 million in funding, which will involve support from various other sponsors.
During the renovation, Ruto disclosed plans for incorporating cutting-edge classrooms and additional amenities aimed at enhancing the students’ advantages.
Additional government strategies aimed at enhancing the education sector involve increasing the recruitment of teachers and advancing the career opportunities of existing educators.
Furthermore, Ruto pledged to ensure the economic changes he committed to delivering to the people of Kenya during the 2022 campaigns. He encouraged Members of Parliament to support his agenda to help everyday unemployed Kenyans residing in inadequate housing and without access to proper healthcare.
“I want to ask you, let us give the ordinary Kenyan a chance. I will do whatever it takes to make sure those without jobs are employed and those without health insurance get it,” he stated.
