Ruto Hits Back at Critics, Claims ‘Fake News’ Is Undermining Kenya’s Progress

President William Ruto led the nation in celebrating the 61st Jamhuri Day on Thursday.

In front of delegates and citizens at Uhuru Gardens, President Ruto emphasized the achievements of his administration, particularly in the housing, healthcare, and digital transformation sectors.

Recently facing criticism on social media, Ruto stated that he welcomes constructive feedback from Kenyans, as long as it is based on facts.

โ€œI have no issue with discussions, criticism, or alternative suggestions. I encourage them and pay attention to feedback to learn, improve, and grow,โ€ Ruto expressed.

He further criticized misinformation spread through digital platforms, stressing the danger of false narratives presented as truth.

โ€œWe are at a stage where digital technologies have the power to spread disinformation, exaggerate fake news, and distort facts. If we succumb to these negative trends, we risk losing our freedom, democracy, and progress,โ€ Ruto warned.

The president contended that avoiding truthful discussions leads to negativity, causing division, hindering development, and threatening the stability of the nation.

Ruto claimed that contrary to the criticism he faces, the cost of living has decreased, farmers are more productive, and Kenyans are benefiting from better services like Taifa Care.

โ€œIf some individuals persist with reckless negativity, how long will they convince Kenyans to deny facts they can see, touch, and experience? What will they say when we begin handing over keys to new affordable housing owners in the coming weeks?โ€ he questioned.

On December 3, Ruto criticized those who habitually oppose his initiatives and leadership approach.

โ€œThere is a negative spirit of opposing everythingโ€ฆ from affordable housing and cow vaccinations to university reforms and healthcare,โ€ he remarked.

โ€œNow, they are even opposing church donationsโ€”what is this? Itโ€™s a negative spirit of opposing everything.โ€
