Ruto Gazettes Appointment of 19 Cabinet Secretaries

President William Ruto has officially appointed 19 out of his 20 Cabinet nominees after their approval by Parliament on Wednesday.

The appointment details are outlined in a gazette notice issued on August 7, 2024.

The gazette notice states: “By Article 152 (2) of the Constitution, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint [the following] to serve as Cabinet Secretaries for the Government of the Republic of Kenya.”

The appointed individuals include Kithure Kindiki, Soipan Tuya, John Mbadi, Justin Muturi, Aden Duale, Alice Wahome, Julian Ogamba, Davis Chirchir, and Rebecca Miano.

Additionally, Hassan Joho, Alfred Mutua, Murithi Muga, Salim Mvurya, Debra Barasa, Kipchumba Murkomen, Opiyo Wandayi, Margaret Ndung’u, Wycliffe Oparanya, and Dr. Andrew Karanja have been appointed.

However, the Committee on Appointments did not approve Ruto’s nomination of Stella Lang’at for the Gender Ministry, citing her insufficient understanding of the role.

Majority leader Kimani Ichung’wah remarked that Lang’at did not display adequate knowledge of the Ministry of Gender, Culture, Arts, and Heritage, making her unsuitable for the position.

Ichung’wah explained, “Stella Soi Langat, though a seasoned civil servant with significant public service experience, did not adequately grasp the responsibilities of the Gender docket, leading the committee to reject her nomination.”

The confirmed Cabinet Secretaries are set to take their oaths at State House, Nairobi, on Thursday at 9 am, as indicated by Press Secretary Emmanuel Talam.

The respective appointments are as follows: Kindiki Kithure (Interior), Dr. Deborah Barasa (Health), Alice Wahome (Lands), Julius Ogamba (Education), Soipan Tuya (Defence), Andrew Muhia (Agriculture), Aden Duale (Environment), Murithi Muga (Water), Davis Chirchir (Roads), and Margaret Nyambura (ICT).
