Ruto CS Appoints ODM MP Mishi Mboko to a 3-Year Job

Salim Mvurya, the Cabinet Secretary for Mining and a member of President William Ruto’s Cabinet, has selected Likoni Member of Parliament Mishi Mboko to serve on the Committee for Community Development Agreement.

In a Gazette Notice published on Friday, Mvurya designated Mboko, along with 12 other individuals, to serve as members of the committee chaired by Salim Kingi Mwakitete.

The committee is anticipated to convene members of the Likoni Community residing in Mombasa County alongside representatives from Base Titanium.

The individuals selected will hold the position for three years starting from February 29 of the current year.

“It is notified for the general information of the public that under regulation 7 (1) of the Mining (Community Development Agreement) Regulations, 2017, the members of the Community Development Agreement Committee between Likoni Community in Mombasa County and Base Titanium,” read the notice which listed the names of the appointees.

“The members under paragraphs shall serve for three (3) years, with effect from February 29, 2024.”

The Committee also includes Mohamed Nur Hassan, Athman Rama Mwamwiri, Mealii Bakari Kakiri, Walter Kurtz, Hassan Mohamed Kandy, Sumeiya Ali Omar, and Juma Kassim Mwanyiro among its appointed members.

Additional individuals include Sheila Heremeni Bonaya, Hanafi Bakari Salim, Mwanaharusi Mohammed Khamisi, Samira Hamza, and Siti Ali Kaponda.

The Community Development Agreement Committee (CDAC) was established during the mid-2010s to oversee a portion equivalent to at least 1% of Base Titanium’s total sales, to be allocated for the benefit of communities impacted by mining operations.

In Kilifi, there are three CDACs including Msambweni, Lungalunga, and Likoni

As outlined in the Mining Act of 2016, the CDAC account is required to include representatives from the State, Community, and Non-State entities.

The responsibilities were allocated among national and county government administration, political leadership, women, youth, persons with disabilities, and holders of mining licenses.

The members are responsible for guaranteeing that Base Titanium Limited’s mining operations generate the highest possible socio-economic benefits that are inclusive and sustainable.

Mboko is serving her second term in Parliament.
