Ruto Contributes Ksh 132 Million Out of Ksh 263 Billion to Solve Sudan Crisis

On Tuesday, President William Ruto vowed to provide Ksh132 million in aid to assist humanitarian endeavors in Sudan, where a devastating civil conflict has resulted in the loss of thousands of lives and the displacement of millions.

The sum contributes to the Ksh263 billion ($2 billion) collectively raised by the international community to promote a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, representing President Ruto, actively encouraged Kenya’s backing for the Sudan mission during his attendance at the International Humanitarian Conference.

“Kenya insists on immediate ceasefire as well as the opening of all borders and cross lines to enable rapid delivery of the much-needed humanitarian aid to the Sudanese people,” Mudavadi noted.

The summit was called together by France, Germany, and the European Union, aiming to discuss strategies for achieving lasting peace in the conflict-ridden nation.

The Foreign Affairs CS stated that the participants expressed serious worries regarding the escalating conflict, human rights abuses, and the crisis’s repercussions.

The parties once again emphasized the need for the conflicting factions to stop fighting and honor the agreement reached during the Jeddah negotiations, which were jointly facilitated by the AU and IGAD in May 2023.

“Kenya’s position is a one united coordinated initiative building on the Jeddah platform as the best way forward,” the Prime CS stated on behalf of Kenya.

“Kenya remains committed to supporting the democratic aspiration of the Sudanese people,” he added.

Stakeholders have also demanded an urgent cessation of foreign entities supplying armed assistance to the conflicting parties or partaking in actions that exacerbate tensions.

The Sudan crisis began in April 2023 after a fierce battle for control between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Millions of individuals from Sudan have been forced to leave their homes, either relocating within the country or seeking refuge in nearby nations.
