Ruto Appoints Atwoli’s Son To Govt Role
Professor Lukoye Atwoli serves as the non-executive chairperson of the board of directors of Mathari National Teaching and Referral Hospital under the administration of President William Ruto.
The modifications were announced by the chief of state in a gazette notice that was published on November 3, Friday.
As per the announcement, Lukoye, who is the progeny of Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Francis Atwoli, shall assume the role in November of this year for a duration of three years.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 (1) (a) of the State Corporations Act and Paragraph 6 (1) (a) of the Mathari National Teaching and Referral Hospital Order, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoints Lukoye Atwoli to the nonexecutive chairperson of the board of directors of Mathari National Teaching and Referral Hospital,” read part of the notice.
Lukoye is a preeminent scholar specializing in the field of mental health research. Presently, he occupies two roles: rector of Aga Khan’s Medical College and co-chair of the Board on Global Health of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.

Recently, the physician was elected as an international member of the National Academy of Medicine (NAM), an organization with its main office in Washington, DC, United States.
Peter Ndegwa, chief executive officer (CEO) of Safaricom, was additionally appointed chancellor of Meru University of Science and Technology.
The tenure of Ndegwa in the position is five years.
Lucas Mogoa, a former candidate for the Bobasi constituency on the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), was endowed with a three-year term on the state corporation advisory committee. The edict commenced operation on November 1, 2023.
Additionally, Sophia Abdi Noor, a former member of parliament for Ijara, was bestowed with the three-year term as chairperson of the National Council for Children Services.
As per the notification, her tenure will span three years, concluding on November 3, 2026.
