Ruto and Raila Dialogue Team: Only 142 Memorandums Received

The National Dialogue Committee received a total of 142 memoranda from members of the public regarding the five broad issues to be discussed between Kenya Kwanza and Azimio.

The quantity of memorandums was revealed on Monday when the 10-member team reassembled at Kenya’s Bomas after a week-long recess.

Governor Cecily Mbarire of Embu, who co-chaired the session with Wiper CEO Kalonzo Musyoka, stated that the majority of submissions came from organizations.

In addition to letters from corporations and individuals, the committee also received correspondence on the topics under discussion.

Now, the eight-member technical committee assisting the committee has one week to review the public comments and produce a unified document for the panel the following week.

“We have allowed the technical teams to go through the memoranda within the week and we will be coming back on Monday to receive the report and make decisions,” Mbarire said.

As of the submittal deadline date of September 10, the committee had only received 29 hand-delivered submissions.

Five memoranda were also delivered by hand to the Bomas of Kenya, where the committee is meeting.

By the deadline, the committee received 121 submissions via email.

The commission is co-chaired by Kalonzo and the majority leader of the National Assembly, Kimani Ichung’wah.

Ichung’wah did not attend the session on Monday because he has not yet returned from his official trip to the United States.

“By the time we meet on Monday it will be heavy engagement, we encourage members to cut down on any possible travels so that we can do justice to the task ahead of us,” Musyoka said.

“The technical team has four days to look deep into the memorandums and make recommendations.”

Jeremiah Kioni-Team Leader-Adams Oloo, Zein Abubakar, and Isabel Githinji represent Azimio on the technical team.

Muthomi Thiankolu, Linda Musumba, Nick Biketi, and Duncan Ojwang are attorneys for Kenya Kwanza.

The committee has 42 days remaining to complete its mission.
