Ruto Ally Unveils Secrets Behind malala’s UDA Removal Bid
Didmus Barasa, a representative from Kimilili, detailed on Wednesday his efforts to have UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala removed from his position in the ruling party.
The lawmaker discussed the fallout between Malala and several prominent members of President William Ruto’s party, including Deputy Speaker Gladys Shollei, in an interview with Spice FM.
Barasa indicated that the chaotic management of party recruitment campaigns in recent months was at the heart of the controversy.
The lawmaker explained that the party’s membership numbers were low and that the SG had failed in this regard.
Barasa also claimed that the SG frequently adopted a partisan stance in disputes between UDA governors and Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), pitting him against several Senators.
The Ruto ally cited the Kiambu county dispute as an illustration, alleging that Malala was on the governor’s side and threatening to de-whip some MCAs from the party.
He explained that the SG had failed to defend the government agenda against opposition leaders who, according to him, knew how to play their cards, particularly during the debate over the Finance Act.
“I have never seen Cleophas Malala issuing a rejoinder to what Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has stated. Sifuna is a very good person in terms of understanding the role that comes with the office as ODM SG,” he noted.

“He is a young lawyer and very eloquent. He has made us feel like we do not have an SG.”
Some party members cited Malala’s attacks on Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Speaker Moses Wetangula as a source of concern. Barasa explained that his actions were causing divisions within Kenya Kwanza at a time when Kenyans were challenging the performance of the Ruto administration.
The lawmaker was referring to Malala’s efforts to convince Mudavadi and Wegtangula to merge with UDA.
However, Barasa maintained that the President and Vice President Rigathi Gachagua had not authorized the attacks on Mudavadi and Wetangula.
“Malala is on a self-destruction path and in the next few months he will exit. The way he was performed is below the bar,” he echoed.
In the midst of a lawsuit filed by Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale over the appointment of regional managers who will supervise the upcoming party elections on December 9, the UDA SG has yet to respond to the allegations.
