Ruto Allies Cry Foul: Accuse Gachagua Backers of ‘Blackmail’ in Kenya Kwanza Rift

Allies of President William Ruto have issued a warning to certain Mt Kenya leaders in government, accusing them of “blackmail” against the Head of State. They emphasized the need for unity within the government and discouraged internal conflicts.

National Assembly Majority Whip Sylvanus Osoro highlighted that the Mt Kenya region holds significant control within the Kenya Kwanza administration, making internal disputes unjustified. He pointed out that they manage nearly half of the government and should avoid causing unnecessary conflicts.

South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro called for mutual respect within the government. He urged leaders to respect each other and the President, emphasizing that blackmailing the President is inappropriate.

Allies of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, including Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, declared they would not tolerate any undermining of the DP. Kahiga stated that they would not allow Gachagua to face the same treatment Ruto experienced as DP under former President Uhuru Kenyatta. He emphasized that Gachagua earned his position through hard work.

Governor Kahiga stressed that any disrespect towards Mr. Gachagua is also an affront to the Mt Kenya region. He recalled the difficulties they faced in electing the current government and stated they would not let history repeat itself with their region’s representative.

Baringo North MP Joseph Makilap defended President Ruto and Rift Valley leaders against allegations of interfering with Mt Kenya politics. He asserted that Ruto had never sent Rift Valley leaders to disrupt Mt Kenya’s political scene and urged those engaging in ethnic mobilization to find other activities.

Mogotio MP Reuben Kiborek assured that national tours by certain youthful leaders should not be feared. Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro had been accused of undermining Mr. Gachagua through his tours, which included talks and fundraisers. However, Kiborek argued that political insecurity should be avoided and warned senior leaders against suppressing the youth.

Eldama Ravine MP Musa Sirma and nominated senator Jackson Kosgei called for calm among Kenya Kwanza leaders and across the political spectrum. Sirma offered to mediate between conflicting parties, stressing the importance of unity and factual discussions over propaganda.

Senator Kosgei reminded leaders that the 2022 elections were peaceful and urged against instigating conflicts two years later. He stressed the need to end ethnic mobilization to achieve meaningful leadership and development.

Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei encouraged DP Gachagua to persist despite criticism, stating that his detractors were wasting their efforts. Cherargei emphasized that Gachagua is a national leader and should not be concerned with minor issues.

When DP Gachagua spoke at a Church event in Nyeri, he avoided addressing the controversy directly. He called for lowering political tensions and focusing on serving the people, stating that there would be time for politics in the future.

However, Gachagua hinted that those criticizing him might be acting on behalf of powerful forces, referring to them as mere “amplifiers.” He urged the Mt Kenya people to remain united and avoid internal divisions and back-stabbing.

DP Gachagua had been notably absent from several important events, fueling speculation about his political relationship with President Ruto. Nonetheless, he appeared on Sunday night to see off the President, who was embarking on a five-day State visit to the United States. Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs CS Musalia Mudavadi accompanied the President on the trip.
