Russian Govt Changes Visa Requirements for Kenyans: How to Apply

Kenyans now have the opportunity to travel to Russia with ease following the introduction of electronic visas by the Russian government for several African nations.

The Russian Embassy in Nairobi announced that Kenya is among the newly added countries whose citizens can visit Russia under the eVisa program.ย ย

โ€œThe Government of Russia has expanded the list of countries whose citizens can visit the Russian Federation with a single electronic visa,โ€ the statement noted. It further specified that the list now includes Kenya, Eswatini, and Zimbabwe, highlighting a significant shift toward welcoming more Kenyan travelers.

The eVisa, however, permits only single-entry travel, meaning visitors cannot stay in Russia for extended periods.

This digital travel authorization is designed to allow foreign nationals to enter the country for a specific duration and purpose.

Russiaโ€™s decision aligns with its efforts to engage other nationalities, especially as it seeks to diversify its global ties amidst the ongoing conflict with Ukraine, a major ally of the United States.

    Application Processย ย

To apply for the Russian eVisa, Kenyans must visit the official embassy website, select the appropriate visa type and purpose of travel, and review the specific requirements and documentation needed.

Applicants will need to complete the eVisa form, print it, sign it, and prepare all necessary documents, including a valid passport, two recent passport-size photographs (3.5 cm x 4.5 cm), and other supporting materials.

The next step involves booking an appointment online and visiting the Embassy on the specified date to submit the application, passport, and required documents.ย ย

After applying, applicants must pay the visa fee. A receipt will be issued, providing details on the collection date and the final decision on the application.

    Visa Costsย ย

Processing a single-entry visa costs KES 12,000 (USD 80) for standard processing and KES 24,000 (USD 160) for expedited consideration, depending on the circumstances and at the discretion of the Consular Official.

Double-entry visas are priced at KES 19,200 (USD 128) for standard processing or KES 38,400 (USD 256) for expedited service. A multiple-entry visa costs KES 36,000 (USD 240) for standard processing or KES 72,000 (USD 480) for urgent applications.
