Russia and Ukraine Exchange 100 Prisoners in Historic Swap
Monday marked the latest development in the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, with both nations announcing the release of nearly 100 soldiers in their most recent prisoner exchange.
Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine more than a year ago, there have been sporadic prisoner exchanges between Kyiv and Moscow.
The chief of staff to the president of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, announced via Telegram that “we are returning 100 of our people.”
Soldiers, sailors, border patrol agents, and national guardsmen severely injured prisoners.
Yermak remarked that the exchange involved troops who remained in Mariupol, the demolished port city captured by Russia last spring, and thanked officials for “accomplishing the seemingly impossible.”
Moscow confirmed that 106 of its soldiers were released as part of the swap and would be transported to Moscow “for treatment and rehabilitation.”

The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that negotiations resulted in the release of the soldiers from Ukrainian-controlled territory and that all prisoners would receive the necessary medical and psychological care.
Authorities announced last month that on March 7, they would exchange 130 Ukrainians for 90 Russian servicemen.
This exchange is the latest in a series of attempts to ease tensions between the two countries.
Even though the conflict between Ukraine and Russia has persisted for several years, international observers have observed that both sides have recently increased their diplomatic efforts.
However, the issue continues to be a major source of tension in the region, and many are calling for a lasting resolution to the conflict.
