Ruben Amorim Discloses Real Reason Rashford is not Playing at Man United
Marcus Rashford will not participate in Manchester United’s upcoming match against Liverpool this weekend. This marks the sixth consecutive game the England winger will miss.
Manager Ruben Amorim has set a challenge for Rashford amid reports of the player expressing a desire to leave the club. Rashford first found himself sidelined on December 15 during a game against Manchester City, where he remained on the bench as an unused substitute.
He was also left out of the squad against Newcastle. Speaking with journalist Henry Winter, Rashford openly admitted his readiness for a new phase in his career.
“I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps,” Rashford explained. “When I leave, it won’t be with any bitterness. You won’t hear me speaking negatively about Manchester United—that’s just not who I am.”
Amorim, however, emphasized that Rashford’s future depends on his drive and commitment. “I’ve spoken a lot about Marcus, but it’s more up to him than me,” Amorim told Sky Sports. “He needs to want it deeply. He’s part of the squad and available to play if I make that decision.”

Despite making 24 appearances this season, Rashford has struggled to regain top form since the previous campaign. According to The Athletic, Amorim was reportedly informed that Rashford had gone out less than 48 hours before Manchester United’s dominant 4-0 victory over Everton on December 1.
Rashford scored two goals in that match but was subsequently benched during the team’s 2-0 defeat—a decision seen as a strong statement by the coach.
The report further suggests that Rashford’s situation at the club remains complex, with his return to the lineup uncertain. He previously faced disciplinary actions under Erik ten Hag, and Amorim seems to be enforcing even stricter standards.
Regarding Sunday’s match, Amorim cited illness as the reason for Rashford’s absence, as reported by Gossipa2z.com.
Manchester United, currently on a four-game losing streak, faces immense pressure ahead of their visit to Anfield, where they haven’t secured a win since 2016. Fans fear another disappointing outcome for the 20-time English champions.
