Rising Death Toll: 22 More Bodies Unearthed in Shakahola Doomsday Cult Case
According to a representative from the regional government, those who were looking for survivors and victims of a doomsday cult in the Shakahola forest discovered 22 additional bodies on Saturday.
The new information brings the total number of fatalities from one of the country’s worst disasters to 201.
“Our forensic team was able to exhume 22 bodies today but we have not reported any rescue,” Rhodah Onyancha, Coast Regional Commissioner, told journalists in the Shakahola forest in the country’s southwest where the search is continuing. The forest is located in the southwest part of the country.

She reported that an additional suspect had been taken into custody, bringing the total number of people arrested in connection with the deaths to 26.
Because hundreds of people are still believed to be missing. Authorities have spent the entire week searching for human remains. By excavating shallow graves located throughout the forest and searching the surrounding area for any surviving individuals.
On Friday, 29 dead bodies were discovered. Among which were the bodies of 12 children who had been buried together in one grave.
Paul Mackenzie, the leader of the Good News International Church, was denied bail by a court in Kenya on Wednesday. Mackenzie is accused of ordering his followers to starve themselves. And their children to death so that they could go to heaven before the end of the world.
