Kenyan motorists are rapidly adopting a window tinting technology that provides much-needed protection against the elements and roving intruders.
Automobilists now have access to tints that can change color and provide a nighttime ambiance.
A smart electronic car tint is a window tint that can be toggled between transparent and opaque with the press of a button.
“Smart electronic car tint is a relatively new product, and as a result, it is more expensive than conventional tint.” A Nairobi-based Mechanic, Dago Okoth, told Kenyans.co.ke that the savings on energy and the increased security of your vehicle may offset the cost of the tint.
It employs Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal (PDLC) film. Which contains tiny crystals that align in response to an electric current to either block or transmit light.
By applying an electric field. Polymer-dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) technology allows smart electronic car tints to switch between a transparent and opaque state.

They are created by dispersing tiny droplets of liquid crystal in a polymer matrix. Without an applied electric field, the liquid crystal droplets are randomly oriented, scattering light and rendering the film opaque.
“If you are considering getting smart electronic car tint, there are a few things you should keep in mind, including the fact that the tint will need to be professionally installed,” Okoth explained.
When an electric field is applied, the droplets of liquid crystal align, allowing light to pass through and rendering the film transparent.
By obstructing the sun’s heat, smart electronic car tints can also help keep your car cool on a hot day.
A UV protective coating is applied to prevent the sun’s harmful UltraViolet Radiation from reaching the interior of a vehicle.
Additionally, electronic car tints can deter thieves from breaking into a vehicle.
