Residents Protest Alleging Doctored Forms in Gachagua Impeachment Process
Nakuru locals have voiced doubts about the transparency of the public participation process regarding the potential impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
During a public meeting in Nakuru, residents expressed concerns about the process’s credibility and questioned whether their input would truly be considered before a final decision was reached.
One resident pointed out the use of photocopied forms without serial numbers, suggesting that the process lacked openness and fairness due to the inability to verify the forms’ authenticity.
“Article 1 of the Constitution grants us sovereign power. This is just the first day, and I’m here to share my opinion. But these forms we’re signing are merely photocopies without serial numbers. How can we track and confirm that our feedback is being acknowledged?” the resident questioned.
In another part of the county, another resident criticized the government for abruptly changing the venue overnight. The individual claimed residents were only informed of the changes on Friday morning when they arrived for the event.
“I am here to share my views on the Deputy President’s impeachment. First, we went to the Red Cross offices and found no meeting there. This is a serious oversight. The government had gazetted the Red Cross office as the meeting location, then switched it overnight without notifying us,” he explained.

The Red Cross office was not the only venue affected by these last-minute changes. In various constituencies across the country, including Nairobi County, residents woke up to similar alterations—such as the venue shifting from the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) to the Bomas of Kenya.
Emotions are running high in numerous constituencies nationwide as residents voice differing opinions on the matter and gather in large numbers to participate in the process.
Tensions escalated in Nyeri on Friday morning, where residents took to the streets to protest the impeachment motion. Protesters set bonfires outside a public participation center and chanted, “No Rigathi, no Ruto. Don’t touch the mountain. We fully support Gachagua.”
On Thursday, several MPs from Nyeri County who initially supported the impeachment reversed their positions.
Tetu MP Geoffrey Wandeto, Kieni MP Njoroge Wainaina, Nyeri Woman Representative Rahab Mukami, and Embu Woman Representative Pamela Njoki held a press conference on Thursday to announce their change of heart.
