Raila’s Bold Demand: Cost of Living Key to Bipartisan Talks Report

Raila Odinga, leader of the opposition party Azimio, announced on Sunday that he will not sign the final Bipartisan Talks report if it does not include a concrete strategy to combat the rising cost of living at the top of its agenda.

In Kajiado county, the opposition leader criticized the government for the sluggish pace of the ceasefire negotiations, claiming that the Kenya Kwanza side is insincere because it has refused to include all of the opposition’s concerns in the agenda.

“No signing of the bipartisan committee report if it doesn’t have a provision for the reduction of the cost of living,” Raila stated in a statement.

”We are holding talks with the government but the first issue must be the cost of living that should come down,” said Raila.

Raila also stated that the 2022 elections should be audited and servers should be opened so that the results of the 2022 presidential election can be scrutinized.

He also criticized the government’s new formula for awarding scholarships, stating that it is defective and unfairly treats Kenyan students.

Raila further criticized the current government’s tax appetite during a halt in Kitengela Town, stating that his coalition will not relent in holding the government accountable.

During the layover, Azimio leaders took turns condemning the government for the Mavoko demolitions, which have dominated national news coverage for the past two weeks.

Raila requested that the government take into account the livelihoods of those impacted by the demolitions.

The opposition also questioned the independence of Parliament, claiming that the executive has been influencing the National Assembly’s decisions.

‘The MPs are receiving pay but not delivering on their mandate. A bill comes from the statehouse and is passed in the house without even discussions,” he stated.
