Raila: Why I don’t make a big deal out of political betrayal
Raila Odinga, the leader of the opposition, has explained why he never makes a great deal out of political betrayals by those he has helped ascend the political ladder.
Raila stated on Tuesday that betrayal is common and inherent to human nature.
According to him, it is also the oldest sin prevalent today, dating back to Adam.
“You see betrayal is human nature. Jesus was betrayed. It is a very old sin. It started with the first human being, even Adam was betrayed,” Raila said.
On Tuesday, the former prime minister answered queries from a group of young people who had met him.
One of the adolescents questioned how the leader of Azimio can accommodate those who have defected from his party despite his assistance in their election to office. He also wanted to know where Raila got his enormous heart.
The leader of the Azimio explained that the majority of them do it out of avarice, but he has learned from experience that they always come and go.
He stated, however, that they will learn from their mistakes.

“Sometimes it’s because of greed. Somebody thinks that side is better than the other side and he can get better opportunities but what I have learned in life is that they go and eventually just come back here.”
“Ni kama story ya mbwa aliyebeba nyama kwa kinywa chake akaenda juu ya daraja anaangalia anaona kivuli chake anafikiria yule mbwa amebeba nyama kubwa kuliko yake akarusha hii kuenda kung’ang’ana na ile akajipata ako na mamba kwenye maji. Those are usual things,” Raila said.
This roughly translates as “It’s like the tale of a dog who carried a piece of meat in its muzzle, went and stood on a bridge, saw its shadow in the water, and concluded that the other dog had a larger piece of meat. It tossed the meat away and went after the meat that the other dog (its shadow) had, only to find crocodiles.”
This comes amid defections from Azimio, including elected leaders from the ODM party of Raila.
Several elected leaders have vowed their allegiance to President William Ruto, insisting that they will only seek development from him.
Despite these defections, including those from previous years, Raila has maintained cordial relationships with the majority of the leaders with whom he has worked, despite their sometimes being on opposing factions.
