Raila Odinga Vows to Fight Government’s ID Card Charges

Leader of the Azimio Raila Odinga has criticized the government for increasing the cost of national identification cards, arguing that the document ought to be issued at no cost as evidence of citizenship.

Amid a congregation gathering on Wednesday in the Westlands Constituency, Odinga expressed his dissent towards the charges outlined in a gazette notice dated November 14, pledging to oppose them.

“We will fight on the ID issue. Every Kenyan should get an ID card, as it is the one that shows you are a Kenyan. So someone wants you to buy it,” Odinga said.

“We will demand that every Kenyan is given an ID card even if they do not have money,” he added.

In addition, the leader of the ODM party commented on the forthcoming National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report, stating that it must address crucial issues such as the auditing of the 2022 presidential elections, the high cost of living, and the restructuring of the IEBC.

Odinga stated that they will deny the outcome of the dialogue if the issues are not addressed.

The MPs who flanked Odinga expressed the same sentiments, threatening to downplay the report if it was presented to the bicameral house without including the germane sections.

Today, the NADCO, under the leadership of Kalonzo Musyoka and Kimani Ichungwa, is anticipated to complete the report’s composition.

Additionally, the former prime minister cautioned legislators against initiating campaigns too soon, as doing so would unnecessarily strain the nation.

In his presence were several MCAs from Nairobi County and city lawmakers led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Pasaris, Westlands Member of Parliament Timothy Wanyonyi, Beatrice Elachi of Dagoreti North, and former Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya.
