Raila Odinga Reveals Next Move if He Loses AUC Chairperson
Raila Odinga, leader of the Azimio coalition, has shared that if he doesn’t win the upcoming African Union Commission (AUC) elections, he will focus on addressing issues within Kenya.
Speaking in Siaya County on Saturday, January 11, Raila, who is running for the position of AUC chairperson, made it clear that he would not withdraw from national matters even if his campaign is unsuccessful.
The former prime minister emphasized that his loss in the election wouldn’t lead him to retreat from his duties at home.
However, he also noted that winning the AUC chairperson role would be a great opportunity for Kenya.
His position would allow him to engage in initiatives that could bring positive changes to the country.

Raila explained, “After the vote is cast, we will know if I have won. If I win, it’s good. But even if I don’t win, it’s not the end. I won’t go anywhere.” He added, “If I win, I will have a chance to work there and do a lot to help us here. If I lose, I’ll stay with you and work together as a community.”
His comments come ahead of the elections, which are set for February 2025. In the race, Raila will compete against Mahamoud Ali Youssouf from Djibouti and Richard Randriamandrato from Madagascar.
Raila has been actively traveling across Africa to seek support from African Heads of State for his AUC bid, with the Kenyan government backing his campaign.
He is aiming to replace Moussa Faki, who has been serving as the head of the African Union since 2017.
