Raila Odinga Calls for Action: Supporters Urged to Prepare for Protests Following Unsuccessful Bipartisan Talks

Raila Odinga, the leader of the Azimio One Kenya Coalition, has urged his supporters to take to the streets in large numbers to demonstrate against the administration of President William Ruto.

He also attacked several elected Nyanza leaders, accusing them of supporting a regime indifferent to the suffering of Kenyans. According to Mr. Odinga, Kenya Kwanza is not sincere in the bipartisan talks aimed at resolving the opposition’s concerns.

“We had agreed to sit with them (Kenya Kwanza) out of goodwill, but they are not sincere. Mr. Odinga stated, “This is why we have returned to the streets to protest the government policies that are overburdening Kenyans.”

He asserted that no amount of persuasion would convince them to resume negotiations with President Ruto’s team.

“You must be prepared to defend your rights. Mr. Odinga stated, “On July 3, I will signal to you when we will resume our street demonstrations.

Odinga stated that the leadership of Azimio has instructed its members to vote against the bill and refuse to be coerced.

Mr. Odinga continued his verbal assault on Mr. Rigathi Gachagua, stating that his description of Kenya as a company with shareholders promoted a perilous narrative of discrimination.

“The second-in-command of the Kenya Kwanza regime has prophesied that Kenya is a corporation. Why do you collect taxes from certain Kenyans who do not have shares in the government? Every Kenyan citizen has equal rights, and we will not tolerate this kind of discrimination that relegates some to second-class status, said Mr. Odinga.

Mr. Opiyo Wandayi, leader of the Minority in the National Assembly, echoed his sentiments, stating that Azimio allowed Kenya Kwanza to talk at the table, but they have not demonstrated goodwill and sincerity.

He indicated that their opposition to the proposed Finance Bill is for the people’s benefit and that they will not support it. “On the matter of the finance bill, either the government withdraws it or we reject it. If they force it through, we’ll return to the streets, said Mr. Wandayi.

The two were speaking at a memorial service for the late chairman of the Luo Council of Elders, Mr. Opiyo Otoncli, in Nyahera, Kisumu County.

After conducting the final funeral rites for Mr. Otondi, Mr. Odinga stated that the process to select a new Ker will begin in earnest.

He stated that he desires the Council of Elders to spearhead the effort to preserve the Luo culture among young people.

“Language is not equivalent to culture. These young people speak English but do not comprehend the culture of the English. As a people, we must preserve our culture, said Mr. Odinga.
