Raila Ally Lifts Lid on ODM Candidate for Presidency in 2027
On Saturday, August 17, Kisii Governor and ODM Deputy Party Leader Simba Arati firmly stated that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is set to field a candidate against President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.
Arati emphasized the steadfast support of the Nyanza Region for ODM leader Raila Odinga, highlighting the party’s intent to challenge Ruto’s leadership in the upcoming elections.
Addressing a crowd in Oyugis town, Homa Bay County, the governor urged Raila Odinga to stay alert as he takes on his new responsibilities within the African Union.
Arati encouraged Raila to return to the political scene shortly before his term ends, assuring that ODM will remain committed to opposing Ruto in 2027.
“As Raila takes on the AU role, we urge him to stay cautious. A few months before your term ends, return, and we’ll ensure we stand against Ruto in the 2027 election,” Arati declared.
Governor Arati also reaffirmed Nyanza Region’s unwavering loyalty to Raila Odinga and called on other regions, particularly Mombasa, to maintain their support for the ODM leader.

“As Nyanza, we stand with Raila Odinga, and I urge Mombasa residents to hold firm for him,” Arati urged.
In a sharp jab, Arati reminded the audience of President Ruto’s history with ODM, implying that Ruto’s political journey remains closely linked to the party.
He humorously hinted that Ruto could rejoin ODM, where Arati, as Deputy Party Leader, would personally review his qualifications.
“Ruto was part of ODM. I’ve told him to return, and as ODM’s Deputy Party Leader, I’ll assess his credentials and find where he fits,” Arati quipped.
The Kisii governor firmly stated that ODM is not in any coalition with President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza government.
Arati clarified that the opposition party merely lent out its best minds to help salvage Ruto’s struggling administration.
