Pull out of Bomas talks – Babu tells Azimio about fuel prices

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino now wants Azimio’s side in the National Dialogue Committee (NDC) to pull out of the talks.

Babu said the talks were pointless as the government has not shown any commitment to addressing the high cost of living.

“The government is not doing anything to stop pump prices from going up. Life is already unbearable for Kenyans but the government appears not concerned,” he said.

Addressing journalists at Parliament Buildings, the Embakasi East MP urged Azimio to abandon the ongoing talks and engage with Kenyans directly, instead.

“We need to communicate in a language that the government understands better,” he stated.

He said Azimio members in the dialogue should instead start a conversation with mama mbogas, boda boda, matatu operators, small-scale traders, and parents.

The government has come under heavy criticism after increasing Super Petrol prices by Sh16.96, Diesel by Sh21.32, and Kerosene by Sh33.13.

The September review saw the prices of petroleum products in the country rise to an all-time high, hitting hard Kenyans who are grappling with the skyrocketing cost of basic commodities.

Babu insisted that it has become clear that the NDC will not yield anything.

The mandate of the NDC is to facilitate dialogue and consensus building and recommend appropriate constitutional, legal, and policy reforms on issues of concern to the people of Kenya.

The Azimio team is led by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka (delegation leader), Minority Leader in the National Assembly Opiyo Wandayi (deputy delegation leader), lawmakers Amina Mnyazi and Okong’o Mogeni and former CS Eugene Wamalwa

The committee comprises the Leader of the Majority in the National Assembly Kimani Ichungw’ah (delegation leader), Embu governor Cecily Mbarire (deputy delegation leader), legislators Aaron Cheruiyot, Omar Hassan Omar, and Catherine Wambilianga representing Kenya Kwanza.
