Public Service CS Justin Muturi Dismisses Resignation Calls
Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has rejected calls from some government leaders asking him to step down.
Speaking on Citizen TVโs JKLive show on Wednesday, Muturi dismissed rumors about his resignation following alleged tensions with President William Ruto. He stated that there is no valid reason for him to leave office.
The former Attorney General expressed confidence in his role, denying claims of insubordination after his recent comments.
Defending His Stand on Gen Z Protest Abductions
Muturi defended his criticism of the government regarding the abductions and killings of Gen Z protesters late last year. He argued that his duty as a public servant includes holding the government accountable and that he should be praised, not condemned, for speaking out.
He reminded Kenyans that during the Kenya Kwanza campaign, the alliance promised to end enforced disappearances. His statements, he said, were meant to remind the government to honor this commitment.
โThe issue I raised on January 12 was about abductions and extrajudicial killings happening in the country. I urged the government to address these issues because they could lead to chaos,โ Muturi said.
Upholding the Rule of Law
Muturi emphasized that it is not government policy to abduct or kill people. He insisted that speaking against such acts is not a reason for him to resign. Instead, he believes he should be recognized for reinforcing the governmentโs stand, which aligns with Kenyaโs Constitution.
He added that his remarks led to government action on abductions and stressed the importance of following legal procedures when arresting suspects.
โIf people are arrested, they must be taken to court within 24 hours. The law also states that they should be informed of the reasons for their arrest within the same period,โ he said.
On Democratic Partyโs Exit from Kenya Kwanza
Muturi avoided commenting on the recent decision by his former party, the Democratic Party (DP), to cut ties with the Kenya Kwanza alliance. He stated that the decision was made by the partyโs leadership, and since he is no longer a member, he had no role in it.
