    Protests Break out In Kisumu

On Saturday, transportation along the Miwani-Mamboleo Road in Kisumu County came to a standstill as an angry crowd blocked the area to demonstrate against a sudden increase in insecurity in the region, disrupting transport services.

Local inhabitants, predominantly from Mamboleo, obstructed the primary thoroughfare and ignited a bonfire while insisting on prompt measures to address the issue.

The demonstrations intensified following an incident on Friday night where unidentified individuals assaulted and robbed a man in his middle years as he walked along the street.

As per accounts, the victim, despite being swiftly taken to the hospital, tragically passed away while undergoing treatment at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Referral Hospital in Kisumu on Saturday morning due to the injuries sustained.

“We were today met by rude shock after realizing that a young man had been killed here yesterday at around 8 pm and similarly a fortnight ago, another young man was shot deal just in the same place,” narrated one of the protestors.

According to the residents, most of them have of late been forced to close their business establishments early over fear of being attacked.

“We call on the government to heed our cries and bring more police officers here in Mamboleo so that we can have adequate patrol done, we demand a patrol base established here,” noted a resident.

Speaking to reporters, Joseph Obara, the OCPD of Kisumu East, mentioned that the government had sent more officers to the region to control the recent pattern.

According to the OCPD, investigations have also been launched to bring to book the perpetrators instigating muggings and killings in the area.

“This road is a hotspot, we have been having incidents. During this festive season, we have marked it as a hotspot and we have made security arrangements to cover it,” Obara noted.

“We realized our roads are very poor, so we have some motorbikes which we shall be using to monitor these thugs and robbers.”

Two months prior, inhabitants of Khwisero, Kakamega, faced a comparable scenario, as they protested on the streets due to security concerns, expressing their grievances about the loss of both lives and property.

While marching across the Ekonjero market to the sub-county headquarters, the residents accused the police of laxity. As such, they demanded the immediate transfer of the local police boss.
